The Vice Chancellor has been very supportive and he is coming with an entourage of university officials and the the President of the Nigerian Chapter of the Great Ife Alumni Association. Previous reunions were attended by alumni from Europe, AfricAnd across the United States

“Breaking into the Top 200 World Universities.” We plan to develop plans – strategic and tactical, on how to raise the profile of our beloved alma mater to be considered among the best in the world. A major component of the strategic plan is the launching of an endowment to fund various programs required for consideration as a top 200 among world universities.

The reunion will be held at Marriott Hotel in Walnut Creek, California. This hotel is within reasonable driving distance of four (4) airports – San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and Sacramento. The Marriott has some rooms reserved for us at a discounted price but there are other hotels you can look up in the area they are available on the hotel section of this website. We strongly encourage you to register prior to the Reunion. This will help with our planning so that we can make sure that you have a thoroughly enjoyable experience

The Marriot hotel, Walnut Creek runs complimentary shuttle service to the Walnut Creek Subway station.

Although the reunion is targeted towards alumni we do recognize that many alumni would like to bring their children. The banquet on Sunday night and the Saturday moning activities are the only events restricted to adults. We urge you to contact www.sittercity.com (888-SIT-CITY Option 1, 888-748-2489) to make pre-arrangements for baby sitting for these events.

Experience the California Bay Area for its fantastic shopping (including outlet malls) if you are bargain hunting, it’s western heritage and a number of activity parks such as Waterworld, Walnut creek shopping outlets in close proximity to the reunion host hotel. San Francisco and Oakland are only about 30 minutes, and 20 minutes away through BART, the local transit system.

The dress code for the banquet on Sunday night is formal which can be either western or NaijAttire. We want you to be comfortable but we also want you to look good. Remember plenty of photographs will be taken and your photograph just might end up on our reunion website.

The other events are more casual but please remember that the summers in California can be hot. People dressed in shorts and T-shirts regardless or age and gender is extremely common.

Yes, but we strongly encourage you to stay at our host hotel. This will ensure that you don’t get lost, and can easily arrive at the various events.

The fee covers your attendance at our scheduled events including the food and soft drinks to be served. Alcohol will be available at the bar which you will be able to purchase. You will also get some souvenirs to remember this fun experience; however you will have to settle your hotel accommodation bill personally. We used our excellent negotiation skills but we couldn’t quite get the accommodation rates low enough to include the Reunion registration fee.

Well, we think it is a charitable endeavor. We believe in giving back. Making the university a better place than we met and left it. Thereby creating a stronger foundation to produce better citizens and leaders of the world. It is disheartening that none of Nigerian universities is ranked among the top 400 in the World. In fact, it was not until 2007 that a university in Africa, University of Cape Town in South Africa, was ranked as the 200th top university in the World. Hence, we believe that we need to break the barrier of permanently installing our university as one of top 200 in the World. One of the ways of doing that is by investing in the university to improve its performance in some of the criteria used in the ranking.
