Prof. Rowland Ndoma-Egba(Pro-Chancellor & Chairman of Council)
Professor Rowland Ndoma-Egba graduated from the University of Lagos College of Medicine in 1977.
Professor Ndoma-Egba is a Professor of Gastroenterology/Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and worked at the Westminster Hospital, London University, Bassetlaw District Hospital-Major Disaster Center, Gloucester Royal Infirmary, UCH-Middlesex Hospitals, University of London. He was the Chief Medical Director/CEO University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
He published more than 50 journals. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, and the Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants.
He is the recipient of multiple awards and titles including Gold Medalist, Cross River State Government Millennium Award, Minen Iyamba (Traditional Prime Minister) of Akparabong Bosok, Ado Idaha Ke Efik Eburutu & Member of Obong’s Council, Calabar, Ntufam Ajan Bakaghara of the Quas & member, Ndidem’s Council to name a few.
He is married to Dr. Margaret Ndoma-Egba and blessed with four sons.
Prof. Bamitale Omole (Vice Chancellor),
Professor Bamitale Omole became the 10th Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on 24th June, 2011.
He is a Professor of International Relations. His scholarly interests are in the areas of International Relations of the Francophone States, International Law, International Politics, International Institutions, Governance and Democratic Studies.
Professor Omole had his B.A (History) Hons. (1976) and M.Sc (International Relations) (1981) degrees from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria before proceeding to the University of Bordeaux, France where he completed his M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in (International Relations/Political Studies) 1986. He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in International Law and Organisation for Development from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands in 1991.
Professor Omole joined the services of the University as an Assistant Lecturer in December 1986 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of International Relations on October 1, 2000. He has also held several Management positions, including Head, Department of International Relations, Dean, Faculty of Administration, Deputy Director, Office of Linkages and Sponsored Research, Member, Governing Board of Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Nigeria and Member, Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
Professor Bamitale Omole has made significant contributions to the development of the University as a member of Strategic Planning Committee and the Advancement Office Committee. In addition, he was part of the University team that wrote the Proposal that won the $15 million Carnegie Corporation Grant of New York for the University. Additionally, Prof. Omole was also part of the team that wrote the proposal that won the $6 millionWorld Bank Step-B Grant for the University. At various times, he was a Visiting Lecturer at the Foreign Service Academy and has been an External Examiner to many Nigerian Universities for many years.
Professor Omole, in the course of his academic career, has traveled to many countries of the world to attend conferences, workshops and establish partnership and academic linkages on behalf of the University. He is a Laureate of many international awards and academic fellowships like the Korean Foundation, Ford Foundation, Rocky Feller Foundation, Post-Doctoral awards by the Government of France and the Netherlands.
He has also, in the course of his illustrious career, secured grants and fellowships for some academic members of staff and trained many members of staff in research methodology and grantmanship. He was also pivotal in the compilation of the current University Alumni Data Base from 1965 to date.
Professor Omole has remained active in research and since 2009 has been the Nigerian Coordinator of the multinational project on Conflict Resolution between OAU, Ile-Ife, Jomo Kenyatta University, Kenya and King’s College, London.
Professor Omole has over 60 published articles in both national and international journals. He has also supervised many M.Sc/M.I.R. theses, and one Ph.D, thesis in the course of his eventful academic career.
Professor Bamitale Omole is happily married with children.
Alhaji Shuaib Adeola Sokunbi (Co-ordinating President for the Reunion & Immediate Past President of the Parent Body)
Alhaji Sokunbi graduated from the department of Mathematics in 1989 with B.Sc. (Hons) in Statistics.
While at Great Ife, he was a member of the Students Representative Council (SRC), President National Association of Mathematics Students of Nigeria (NAMSN) and President Abeokuta Students Union. He has served Great Ife Alumni Association in various capacities at the Port Harcourt Branch in Nigeria branch and at the National level before his election in May 2010 to the exalted position of the Worldwide President of Great Ife Alumni Association. He has served in this capacity for two terms of two years each (2010 -2014). By virtue of his position as the Alumni Worldwide President, he has served as a member of the University Governing Council for four years (2010-2014) representing Convocation. He served in different committees of the Governing Council as Chairman and member.
Alhaji Sokunbi currently works for the Anglo-Dutch oil giant company in Nigeria; the Shell Petroleum Development Company. He has attended various Leadership training and has travelled severally within and outside the country.
Adeola currently sits on the Board of Obafemi Awolowo University Investment Company Limited (OAU ICL), a Director in Focal Global Thrust Investment Limited (FoGTIL), CEO of City Model Group of Schools in Port Harcourt Nigeria and Chairman/CEO of GreenForest Farms Nigeria.
He has received many awards including Evergreen Merit Award of League of Gentlemen Port Harcourt Nigeria, Distinguished Achievers Award by Great Ife Alumni Association UK Branch, Grand Master of the Smiling Coast Alumni Award by Great Ife Alumni Association Gambia branch, Award of Excellence by National Association of Mathematics Students of Nigeria and the Great Ife Alumni Association highest award of Grand Commander of Great Ife (GCGI).
He is married to Ganiyat and they have three children.
Oyewole Olaoye (Former President of the Parent Body) ,
Mr. Oyewole Olaoye is a graduate of the University of Ife where he bagged a BA, Literature in English, and the University of Lagos where he obtained an MSc in Mass Communication. His working career has seen him go from the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service (WNBS) to Indigo Magazine and then to Drum Publications where he rose to become an Editor. He was also a columnist with both Drum and Trust magazines between 1975 and 1984.
From Drum, he joined West African Book Publishers Limited (WABP) in 1984 on the editorial team of Monthly Life magazine and rose to become Editor-in Chief before he was appointed Director, Administration and Planning in 1990. While with WABP, he was privileged to make valuable contributions to the marketing efforts of the EDCON group, particularly that of Academy Press, the largest commercial printing press in West Africa.
He has since established a PR/Communication firm, Diametrics Limited, headquartered in Abuja, where he is Chairman/CEO.
Before venturing into journalism, Olaoye had seriously considered becoming a Catholic priest. Indeed he had enrolled at the Major Seminary of SS Peter & Paul, Bodija, Ibadan where he read Philosophy and some Theology before calling it quits. Several of his colleagues at the seminary are now archbishops and bishops of various dioceses all over Nigeria.
Mr. Olaoye has served as a Member of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, between 2006 and 2010; and a Director of OAU Investment Company Limited (incorporating publishing, printing, hospitality, manufacturing, agricultural, engineering and logistical enterprises) from 2008 to 2012. He was also for several years Chairman of the joint Council/ Senate Committee on Senior Staff Discipline of the Obafemi Awolowo University. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Leadership Newspapers and a columnist in Daily Trust. He is a member of the Board of Academy Press Plc.
Married to Anne Ndidiamaka Olaoye with three children, Mr. Olaoye is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), International Public Relations Association (IPRA) and a Fellow of the African Public Relations Association (APRA). In the course of professional commitments, he has visited 35 out of the 36 states of Nigeria and has also toured the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, Gambia, Uganda, Rwanda, Mauritius, among others.
A former National President of the Great Ife Alumni Association, he is a recipient of the highest national honour of Grand Commander of Great Ife. He is a member of the Lagos Island Club and subscribes to several voluntary agencies, especially those involved in what he describes as “social engineering sector”.
